RWC World Cup Final Over - Malta Rugby Season Kicks in with Ray Elliott Cup- Gladiators Seniors and Youth 7s 29-30 October
The World Cup is finally over with a hard fought win by New Zealand over France (8-7) . It was a close shave and not NZs best performance but hard fought and overall the Web Ellis Cup is well deserved by the Kiwis for an outstanding tournament and indeed season. France were outstanding and it was their best game. For me the team of the tournament was Argentina for sheer passion , skills and improvement embodying the  spirit of Rugby- and for proving once and for all that Rugby Union is a truely global sport (IRB WAKE UP and stop the obsession with 6 Nations and Tri (now Four) Nations)

The Malta Rugby season kicked off on 23rd October with the Kavallieri- Overseas Ray Elliot Cup Clash . Here is the report:

GLADIATORS SENIORS have first challenge of their FIRST full season with the 7s tournamnet on 29th August from 1330 onwards - Please come and support us.

The Youth 7s Competition kicks off the following day -   We will field a combined U18s abd U16s squad - and as  the Gasan Mamo Youth 7s  CUP HOLDERS we have to defend our title so again please lend us your support.

See the link on this page to download the full SEASON's FIXTURES.

Finally our school programme is flourishing thanks to Youth Club Captain Joe Paollella assisted by Joey Criminale and we will shortly announce some new important coaching appointments for our Club Youth and Seniors  - watch this space.

These are exciting times for Rugby and our club .

Come on Gladiators - UNLEASH HELL on the pitch but Enjoy your rugby, socialise with your opponents after and create life long friendships!

Welcome to the Gladiators RFC website.  Founded in January 2009, the Gladiators was initially set up to cater for the ever growing demand for youth rugby for boys , however eventually the club aims to cater for male and female players of all ages. Currently training is offered to boys in  the U12 (ages 9-11), U14 (ages 12-13) and U17s (ages 14-17) and seniors 18 + . The club is independently registered with the Malta Rugby Football Union (MRFU) and the Kunsill Malti tal-iSport (KMS- Mlata Sports Council)  and as such is open to all in the age groups we currently cater for, however, it also acts as a support club for St.Martin's College students who wish to explore playing rugby beyond what is currently offered as part of PE sessions during regular school hours. The club is therefore participating in the Malta "Rugby Revolution" promoted by the MRFU and offering "after school" session at times convenient for boys and parents alike. Gladiators RFC aims to be an inclusive clubs and players enjoy difefrent codes and variations of rugby-  Rugby Union 15s, 10s,7s, Rugby League , Beach Rugby , Tag Rugby and Mini-Tag Rugby.

Why the "Gladiators" ? - well the name was inspired by those ancient warriors, of course, who battled to the end for the entertainment of the Romans  and fought individually as well as part of a team together from all races and creeds and shapes and sizes- which kind of sums up the spirit of rugby (there is a place for everyone) - the blockbuster film "Gladiator" was also filmed in Malta and , perhaps the greatest inspiration of all , the Gloucester Gladiator planes, "Faith, Hope and Charity"  that were initially the only airborne defense for Malta at the outbreak of the 2nd World War . They fought bravely and prevailed against all the odds. If you look closely at our club logo a Gloucester Gladiator is tatooed on the arm of the warrior.
